Jerry being Jerry

Jerry Jones is back in the headlines, and this time, it’s not about a trade, a contract, or a bold prediction.

The NFL has fined the Dallas Cowboys owner $250,000 after cameras caught him flashing what appeared to be his middle finger during Sunday’s 37-22 win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

The clip quickly made the rounds on social media.

Jones, never one to shy away from the spotlight, addressed the incident on his weekly radio appearance with 105.3 The Fan, insisting the gesture was “inadvertent” and calling it an honest mistake.

He said the moment happened right after the Cowboys’ final touchdown, as he was celebrating with fans in front of the suite, intending to give a “thumbs up.” Instead, he admitted he “put up the wrong show on the hand,” adding that the situation “got straightened out pretty quick.”

Whether you believe Jones’ explanation or not, the league clearly isn’t laughing. The NFL has long maintained a firm stance on conduct that could tarnish its image, holding owners to the same standard as players.

There’s precedent too, Bud Adams was fined the same amount in 2009 for a similar gesture, and David Tepper received a $300,000 fine just last season for tossing a drink at fans.

This time, it’s Jerry footing the bill.

Cooper Flagg made his presence felt in his Dallas Mavericks debut against the OKC Thunder, filling up the stat sheet in limited minutes.

How would you grade the rookie’s first outing?

The DLLS Mavs crew hands out their preseason Game 1 report cards, and Marc Stein stops by with the latest Mavs news and notes in “The Stein Line.”

Before the puck drops for the regular season, Sean Shapiro rolled out his round of predictions. He went through the entire Dallas Stars opening-night roster and made one bold forecast for each player, the kind his co-hosts will definitely remind him of later in the season.

Shocker
