👋 Hello, friends.

Someone wise once told me that the beautiful thing about baseball is the possible. It’s the possibility that something — anything — could happen over the span of 162 games in a season.

A perfect game is possible every time. So are moments like this.

New York Bound?

Imagine you hopped in a time machine and went back to May 30 of last year. The Mavs had just beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games to head to the NBA Finals. Life was good. Things were trending up.

Now, just over a year later, we're still not only dealing with the ramifications of the Luka trade, but also discussing another potential shocking trade -- at least in its extremely early stages.

We've reported at DLLS that the New York Knicks have interest in Mavs head coach Jason Kidd. The obvious factor in all of this: Kidd is under contract with Dallas, meaning the only two paths toward his immediate departure are by trade, or by his firing.

The idea has been floated about the former being a possibility.

The weird part: it's happened before with Kidd. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks after one season as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets received two second round picks for Kidd.

Could Kidd now be traded back to New York? And if so, for what compensation.

The whole conversation made me think of the first press conference after the Luka trade. I'm not a Mavs reporter so this is obviously just an external opinion, but man, it didn't feel like Kidd was exactly all in on the deal. It didn't feel like he was particularly thrilled to be one of the people answering questions about why the Mavs made one of the most controversial and shocking trades in sports history.

I wonder, personally, if Kidd has been hoping for a potential out since then.

We'll see how his Mavs tenure unfolds. One thing is for certain: if you told me last year how this Mavs season would go, I never would've believed you.
