Roster cuts, big questions, and a legendary guest on the DLLS Cowboys podcast

NFL cutdown is in the books, and the Cowboys locked in their initial 53-man roster as the clock struck 3 p.m. CT. Dallas had to make tough choices to get down to 53 players, with some fan favorite names surviving the cut and others left on the outside looking in. The roster is set, for now, but the moves tell us a lot about how the team is preparing for the 2025 season.

One of the biggest questions hanging over the roster is Micah Parsons. Will he be ready for Week 1 against the Eagles? His status loomed large over Dallas’ decision-making, forcing the front office and coaching staff to weigh depth at multiple positions. The Cowboys may have tipped their hand with how they built the defense around him.

Of course, roster cutdowns aren’t just about who made it—they’re about who didn’t. Injured reserve designations, trades, and a handful of veteran releases all shaped the final 53. The front office clearly has a plan, but fans are left debating if Dallas did enough to put the right mix of experience and upside on the field.

Defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was one of the more emotional stories of cutdown day. Not only did he earn a spot on the roster, but it was the way head coach Brian Schottenheimer delivered the news to the former All-UFL standout that made the moment unforgettable.

To top it all off, the timing couldn’t have been more fitting. On the one-year anniversary of DLLS, Cowboys legend Darren Woodson joined the show to talk more on the Netflix documentary, how he would celebrate WHEN he makes the HOF, and share his thoughts on the current team’s direction. A milestone moment for all of DLLS and a defining moment for the Cowboys’ season collided in one jam-packed episode.
