👋 Hello, friends.
Cooper Flagg has already been a business boon for the Dallas Mavericks. But with so much time between the lottery and his inevitable top selection, some tend to wonder … what if Nico Harrison did the unthinkable again?
That would be a huge gamble. And an immediate inciter of PTSD.

Capture Flagg

Before we get any further, let’s address the obvious: there’s a 99.9999999999999999999999% chance that Cooper Flagg ends up in a Mavs uniform. Dallas’ lottery win was seemingly a gift from the basketball gods, and it’s not smart to shun such a blessing.
But.
But.
You know, the whole Luka thing… it at least makes stories like the one posted on ESPN on Monday worth considering.
ESPN laid out three trade packages that would at least make the Mavs stop and consider potentially trading the No. 1 pick. You can see the full details in their story, but the three deals revolve around these three ideas:
The No. 2 and No. 14 overall pick, + future picks
Donovan Mitchell and multiple future first round picks
Devin Booker and multiple picks (in exchange for No. 1 and multiple players, including Klay Thompson)
Some of these deals, on paper, are at least interesting. But then you replace that No. 1 pick with Cooper Flagg and it becomes, in my opinion, much less tantalizing.
Tim Legler called Flagg a “can’t-miss prospect.”
Carmelo Anthony recently talked about how impressed he was watching Flagg
There’s also the mulligan element of the Mavs winning the lottery. Nico Harrison and the Mavs did the unthinkable, in the eyes of many, and traded Luka Doncic away. Now, thanks to some luck, they have the chance to find another young star to build upon — immediately.
They can’t trade that away, too.
Vegas, baby!
