👋 Hello, friends!
Jrue Holliday would’ve been a nice acquisition for the Mavs. Their interest in him, according to our own reporters, was real — but ultimately not enough.
Holliday is heading to Portland for a package that includes Anfernee Simons.
So where do the Mavs turn to next? We’ll see if they get something done before what expects to be a busy rest of the week. And we’ll see if guys like Holliday — and maybe someone else, cough, cough — get flipped.
Speaking of a busy week…

Move(s?) Made

One thing I love about DLLS is the fact that I can get my own questions answered immediately. Take yesterday’s news, for example.
Obviously I follow the Mavs enough to write a newsletter and have #takes about certain things. That whole Luka deal? Objectively bad, I’d say!
But when I saw the news yesterday that Daniel Gafford was signing a three-year extension, I was somewhat … take-less. That’s nice, I thought, but what did it mean?
So, I tuned into our DLLS Mavs emergency pod for answers, and immediately our Tim Cato and Kevin Gray set the scene: yes, Gafford signed an extension, but that didn’t mean he was immediately set-in-stone in the Mavs’ future plans.
Gafford, according to our experts, could still be traded. There’s an argument that a new contract makes him even more tradeable.
My take: that’s fascinating. And riveting, especially considering the seismic change that’s about to happen to the Mavs later this week when they select Cooper Flagg.
Of course, Nico Harrison is still the maestro of all this change, which means he could be the conductor of chaos, as we know. But I’m at least tuned in now. And you should be too.
