👋 Good morning! Hope you all were able to enjoy your long weekend, if you got one! I sure did. I spent 10 years shooting professional fireworks on the Fourth, but now that I’m merely a civilian normie again, I’ve rediscovered what the holiday is all about: eating pizza and spending as much time near a pool as possible.
Unfortunately it was lousy weather for us pool-seekers this weekend in DFW, but no matter. Pizza was still enjoyed, and relaxation was still thoroughly performed. It’s back to it for all of us this morning. Let’s make it a great week! — Bobby Karalla

KaVontae Turpin arrested on Sunday morning

Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowler KaVontae Turpin was arrested on Sunday morning on charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of marijuana (under 2 oz.). Bond for the charges was a combined $1,500.
Our Clarence Hill has more details here, and he suggests the charges might not impact Turpin’s availability this season, though that process will play out at the league level in the coming weeks. Turpin was certainly one of the most valuable Cowboys last season, establishing himself as not only perhaps the best return man in the game, but also contributing as a receiver and even occasionally at running back. He’ll be needed big-time once again this season, so any suspension or disciplinary issues would be a huge blow to his team.
The Cowboys are obviously no strangers to off-field controversies, particularly during the offseason. The season is in sight, however — camp begins two weeks from today in Oxnard. It’s a shame this situation took place at all for Turpin, let alone so close to business time. Hopefully it all turns out well for him and everyone can move on and get ready to work.
Vegas, Baby!

Join us in Las Vegas for a weekend full of fun, concluding with the Cowboys vs. the Raiders on Monday Night Football. Check out all the information here and if you have any questions let me know!

Speaking of Las Vegas, that’s exactly where the DLLS Mavs crew will be spending Wednesday through Sunday this week! Marc Stein, Tim Cato, Kevin Gray, producer Tanner Rottman, and I will be out there for Las Vegas Summer League, providing you with wall-to-wall coverage of Cooper Flagg’s first two games as a Maverick.
We already have some great guests lined up for shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and we might be able to wrangle a few more names as well. As a heads up, we’ll do postgame shows on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon live on our YouTube channel, and we’ll do daytime shows on Thursday and Friday. All times are TBD based on what the team’s practice schedule looks like.
BIG thanks to our friends at the Westgate Resort & Casino for setting us up! We’ll be streaming live from their on-site studio and probably spending a little too much time — or just the right amount — in their massive sportsbook. Let us know if you’re out in Vegas at all this week and we’ll come say hi!

Jeff Wilson wrote up an extensive report on some of the Rangers farm system’s biggest names and best performers in the month of June. While the big-league season continues to ebb and flow, there are some minor-leaguers building some momentum.
Cody Freeman put up video game numbers in June at Triple-A Round Rock, boasting a .347/.412/.582 while tallying six homers and one more walk than strikeouts. Seems like an obvious candidate to be moved up… but he isn’t on the 40-man roster. That’d be a tough move to make at the moment, but with the trade deadline approaching things might clear up at some point. Or if he keeps hitting like that, they’ll probably clear up the situation for him.

ICYMI: New Dallas Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan joined the DLLS Stars crew for about 20 minutes right off the top of their show last Thursday! Be sure to go check it out.
There are plenty of reasons to believe things will be better this time than they were the last time he was the coach in Dallas. For starters (and most importantly) the roster is way better, way more experienced, and much more ready to win. Gulutzan also learned quite a bit following his last stint in Dallas, particularly while coaching in Edmonton.
There’s some pressure on this team to win big right now for sure. Time will tell if the new boss can get them over the hump.

Wow. Got this randomly. Are my power alleys getting that bad??? Give me a couple more years and I will come see you my guy… 😳

Father Time might be undefeated, but Dirk Nowitzki’s hair is still immaculate! Shame on you, random solicitor!!
