👋 Hello, friends.

I remember J.J. Spaun talking after his loss at The Player’s Championship about some of his previous tournament performances and how crippling a lead can be. How tough it is to hold on when everyone, including the best golfers in the world, are trying to rip you down.

That was before be struggled on the front nine yesterday. And before a storm made one of the most unplayable courses in the world even more difficult.

But Spaun, 34, persevered, finishing the job with a putt over 60 feet to win the U.S. Open.

Smoke or not?

The Boston Red Sox joined that club yesterday. The one you don’t want your team to be in. The one that’s in the news for trading away a player that they probably shouldn’t, for a haul that wasn’t objectively worth it.

Maybe Craig Breslow and Nico Harrison can discuss trading Rafael Devers and Luka Doncic over some cold coffee one day?

Jim Nill, I believe, is too good to be in that category. And even if he did trade a big-time player, it likely would be for a big haul.

Which makes the Jason Robertson trade rumors interesting…

  • Dallas could trade Robertson. But it would have to be for a return that makes the team better now, or a very hefty haul of picks and prospects that protects their future and currently depleted pool of each. And I think, more importantly, it would have to push Dallas forward in its transition to being a playoff-style hockey team.

That’s it. I could get into what Robertson brings and his stats, but we all know what he does. He scored goals — 35-40 of them each year — and he can disappear at times in the playoffs. He’s only 25, so his best years could very likely still be ahead of him. I think, unless the return is impossible to say no to, Dallas keeps their star winger.

Do you think they’ll trade Jason Robertson? Time will tell, but my gut says it’s unlikely.

Cowboys merch sales are down … compared to some of their rivals. Why is that?

Will the Rangers buy a pitcher at the deadline? Jeff Wilson looks at a rotation that’s hanging on.
