👋 Hello, friends.

Apologies for the late newsletter. I had a Sunday night flight canceled for the second consecutive trip. Starting to think I angered someone upstairs.

My camping trip is over. I’m exhausted, burnt, and covered in bug bites — but also refreshed. We saw a bald eagle flying around an Oregon lake on my final day. If you can, I highly recommend getting off the grid and spending time in nature. I don’t do it enough, tbh.

Peter Out

I’m starting to think that Pete DeBoer may have the most interesting coaching career I’ve ever seen. In any sport. He’s had a ton of success. A points percentage of .585. Ten trips to the playoffs in 18 seasons. Two trips the the Stanley Cup Finals, where he lost both times. Six trips to the conference finals in his last eight seasons, including each of his three seasons with the Dallas Stars.

It’s a track record of excellence fraught with baffling consistency. He’s been the king of the precipice, but unable to achieve the ultimate prize.

I come from a family with a ton of military history. One phrase that’s been imbedded in me: close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Chasing Stanley Cups, or any title, is outside of that reach.

So, why is DeBoer out after what might be his best tenure?

“After careful consideration, we believe that a new voice is needed in our locker room to push us closer to our goal of winning the Stanley Cup,” Stars GM Jim Nill said in a statement released by the team. “We’d like to thank Pete for everything that he has helped our organization achieve over the past three seasons and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

I added italics to that specific part of Nill's short statement because it feels the most telling. Voices are unique, and despite the success it sounds like the Stars had grown tired of DeBoer's. Is that a consistency on par with his on-ice success?

It's easy to wonder.

The Stars are now on the hunt for a new head coach, though. Which means it's time to speculate about the possibilities.

Join us in VEGAS

Join us in Las Vegas for a weekend full of fun, concluding with the Cowboys vs. the Raiders on Monday Night Football. Our package includes flights for those who are in the Dallas area and non-flight options for those who don’t need Dallas flights. Check out all the information here and if you have any questions let me know!

The Cowboys have a need at CB. We’ve talked about Jalen Ramsey, but he’s expensive, both in terms of contract and additional draft pick compensation. How about newly released Jaire Alexander instead? The DLLS Cowboys crew discussed it today.

My take: go get him, Jerry.

ICYMI: The Knicks’ interest in Jason Kidd has increased. What does it mean for the Mavs?

Ten games into the season and the Wings are officially 1-9 after a loss to the undefeated Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. Not great.

I would love to be accidentally this good.
